He works to spread education and awareness on issues surrounding mental health and substance abuse as well as help families navigate the difficult waters of getting a loved one help. Howard has spent the past 8 years working with young adults and their families, being a support during times of crisis. I serve as the Deliveries Coordinator, which means I get to connect with our amazing team of volunteers to help organize and schedule deliveries for the families we serve.

California does not offer licensed certification for halfway houses, and in turn, insurance contracts are not able to be obtained by them. If needed, many halfway houses will work with you to set up a payment plan that is advantageous for both parties. Therefore, it is important to research what options are available. For instance, many provide Review Vanderburgh House access to outpatient treatment such as individual and group therapy. Holistic activities such as yoga, meditation, massage therapy, art, and music therapy may be available. Lastly, process groups and opportunities for peer accountability within the house may be available.
The early stages of recovery can be emotionally and physically challenging. Deciding to get sober, and stay sober, is no easy feat, thus there will be bad days. A recovery community provides the necessary encouragement and support for an individual to overcome challenges that may arise during this time.
Dr. Lichtman brings his extensive experience with addiction psychiatry to serving the young men of Vanderburgh House. Dave takes great pride and joy in being a small but hopefully successful part of the process. We attend Grace Family Church, and I joined the NLW board in 2023.

New Life Warehouse thrives because of people who believe in second chances and the power of community. On board, I aim to help steer the organization with wisdom, compassion, and purpose. Having worked alongside Stephanie, I have seen firsthand her ability to lead with empathy and vision. New Life Warehouse serves all people in need in the community consistently and brings a spirit of collaboration and excellence that inspires those around them. I am honored to be on the board and support their passion for service, deep-rooted integrity, and unwavering commitment to community restoration.

Alumni Program
All of these are key components needed to overcome anxiety, depression and substance use. As a result, these will allow young men to learn and practice a range of skills for their well-being to live a balanced and healthy life. At Vanderburgh House Recovery Community, we have built a treatment team that inspires hope and recovery among the young men who enter our sober living homes in Los Angeles, California. In fact, some of our recovery staff are also alumni of New Life Recovery. We also partner with professionals to provide clinical services for our program participants.
This offers them the best chance at achieving emotional and physical recovery from addiction. In fact, those who participate in a long-term program at any age experience a generally higher success rate. We specialize in helping young men often classified as “failure to launch“, providing them with the necessary toolset to go out into the world successfully, and refocus the direction of their lives. Addressing much more than just drug abuse or alcohol addiction, Vanderburgh House helps young men launch.

Additionally, we can help them with employment or education opportunities, and ongoing recovery support. One of the primary benefits we offer our residents is there is no set limit to the length of residency. Patients are free to live in one of our homes as long as necessary. We understand the importance of allowing them to work on your recovery at their own pace.
Volunteer FAQ and Guidelines
We are much more than just a sober living home with members who are friends–we are a family. Established structured sober living provides a distraction-free environment without having to pass by the dealer’s house, endure toxic relationships, or be tempted to party. New Life Warehouse collects used furniture and household goods from people in the community and delivers them to families recovering from homelessness. We pickup furniture donations and accept drop-offs at our warehouse. We receive referrals from social workers who have identified familes suffering from furniture poverty.
Many of our house members come from all throughout the USA to join our structured programs. Allowing them the opportunity to embrace a new environment and build the life and coping skills needed to create the life they deserve. We value each and every client that comes through our doors and hope to build lasting relationships with all. Though we could go on and on about why our sober living services work, we believe that our graduates and families can say it better than we ever could.

Many residents will finish chores and other activities, based on their daily schedule. For those in early recovery, they get substance abuse and mental health treatment through the private Vanderburgh House program at Clear Recovery Center. This formal treatment is helpful, as addressing mental health is our key focus. Residents also attend to work, school, and other personal pursuits. The goal of Vanderburgh House is for sober living residents to gradually become self-reliant, in the safety of a sober environment.
My first experience with New LIfe Warehouse was serving as a volunteer to stage furniture for new clients. The mission is clear, the logistics are solid, and the impact is so tangible. Merging my passion for decorating with my heart for service felt like a dream come true! I love how many volunteers it takes each week to come together to help our community.
